Both the Durham County Board of Elections and the Southern Coalition for Social Justice asked for extended hours.
More than a third of American voters may have cast their ballots before Election Day under early-voting procedures, a heartening development in the face of aggressive Republican vote-suppression efforts in a number of states with GOP-controlled legislatures.
The problems had apparently been corrected by 8 a.m. ET, according to reports in local media. The State Board of Elections later agreed to extend voting hours at eight precincts for up to an hour to make up for the disruptions.

The board says six more precincts can stay open a shorter amount of time. Election Protection said “we had reports of poll workers turning voters away but that has now been resolved”. Workers switched to using printed voter lists.
The issue began around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and all locations had a paper backup, Khan said.
Lawson said those in line when the polls close will still be allowed to vote. Later in the interview, he said, “It’s largely a rigged system”.
Earlier today, the Durham County elections board voted for a ninety-minute extension county-wide.
“I hope they get practice, I hope they get excited about it, I hope that when they are old enough that they register and vote, and I hope they learn a little something about not just watching commercials on TV, and that there is a whole lot more information out there”, she said.
