Thousands Ready to Troop up Fifth Avenue for Annual Veterans Day Parade
The annual Veterans Day parade started around 11 a.m. Friday at Partridge Street and Central, and made its way down to the state capitol.
To every veteran past and present, thank you for your service, including News 4 Tucson’s 6 p.m. producer Donald Jordan.
Route: The parade will form on Broadway between 23rd Street and 25th Street and will continue along 5th Avenue from 26th Street to 52nd Street.
Another group of veterans that received special recognition at Friday’s ceremony were those who served in World War II.
Veterans lead a march from the American Legion Post #340, to the Veteran’s Memorial in Hermansville, with the North Central Marching Band following behind.
“I’ve been in the parades since 9/11”, he said.
This year, the parade’s theme is “Welcome Home Vietnam Heroes”. The Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force will also be represented.
D’Antonio said federal grants could offset some of the costs, and we should certainly pursue whatever is available.
“I just can’t relate to the people I hung out with before the service, because I’m 22 years old and I done and seen things they just can’t imagine”, he said.
Meanwhile, the George Washington Bridge is also saluting veterans on Veterans Day.
Jose Cedano, 15, of Boy Scout Troop 49 of Springfield, said his troop was there “to show how much we appreciate Veterans Day and show how much we love it”. Others shared what this day meant to them.
