Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott the starter, and “it’s not hard at all”
Almost all of them have playoff implications, but the showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys carries the most interest due to the size of their fan base. Their 6.1 yards per play is the third highest in the league while their time of possession tops in the NFL.
The injury report for the Dallas Cowboys is a bit longer than that of the Steelers, but only two players are listed as out: cornerback Morris Claiborne and safety Barry Church. Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys’ rookie running back, is also generating a lot of buzz – and rightly so.
The Cowboys went on another 75-yard drive in the fourth quarter, but this one didn’t last almost as long. With a hard road opponent in the Steelers up next and rookie QB Dak Prescott at the helm, many have wondered if Romo at least would enter Sunday’s game as the backup. Pittsburgh’s defense has only four interceptions so far this season, which are needed in order to slow this Cowboys offense. A win could bring the Steelers back above.500 with a fighting chance against a schedule that isn’t that intimidating the rest of the way. He has eight career postseason touchdowns, two interceptions, and averages 219 passing yards per game. Le’Veon Bell was kept quiet as he had just 32 yards rushing on 14 carries. “I think very similar to what I had, he’s got a great running game and a good defense, a great defense”.
“It’s just going with the obvious”, Jones said. “I think what you’re going to have is, you’re going to see Tony playing really well at practice, really being what he can be, which is in my mind, when he’s healthy, I don’t know that I would trade him for anybody”.
Pittsburgh’s defensive line will have its hands full with a strong Dallas Cowboys offensive line, one of the best in the league after being rejuvenated in the past few years both through the draft and free agency.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown: Roethlisberger passed for 408 yards and three touchdowns for a 125.4 passer rating. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was terrific for the Steelers, and almost won the game with a memorable last-minute touchdown pass on a fake spike. For one, they start with the ball to open the game more often then not.
STOPPING KIDS: There was a time not long ago when Pittsburgh had little trouble against teams with rookie starting quarterbacks.
While earlier in the season the words coming out of the Cowboys brass made it clear this was Romo’s team once he was back, things have changed drastically. But even if you look at the short term, arguably you can’t pull Prescott at 7-1-0 in favor of an injury-prone veteran that could be below game speed right now.
“Terrance Williams is a guy who can stretch the field vertically and he also runs just about every route in the route tree”.
This game has potential to go either way.
