Congressman Jim Cooper is joining calls for President-elect Donald Trump to drop top advisor Steve Bannon from his leadership team.
“I think the thing that upsets so many people about Bannon is that. he is chairman of Breitbart News and as an outlet it is deliberately provocative”.
Bannon is best known for his role as a Breitbart News executive, a website that some see as a haven for alt-right views. Bannon was chairman of Breitbart News, a website that has featured anti-Semitic and white supremacist material. Graham did say, however, that he is not a fan of the “alt-right”.

His pick of Bannon has been condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations Jewish Voice for Peace, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among others. Reid also criticized Trump’s appointment of Steve Bannon to his staff, calling the controversial appointee a “champion of white supremacy”.
Trump has come under increased pressure to dump Bannon from Democrats and some Republicans, who argue that Bannon isn’t suited to be at the highest level of government.
But Kellyanne Conway, Mr Trump’s spokesperson throughout his campaign, insists the reaction to his selection is overblown. As his defenders note, he is a former U.S. Navy officer whose background includes both Harvard University and the London School of Economics.
The Democrats’ leader in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said Bannon’s appointment sent “an alarming signal that President-elect Trump remains committed to the hateful and divisive vision that defined his campaign”.
