Bernie Sanders To Stephen Colbert: ‘Now More Than Ever, It’s Our Revolution’
Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) explains how President-elect Donald Trump pulled at the heartstrings of America for votes, his new book Our Revolution and the future of the Democratic party.
Sanders – the former Democratic candidate who has a well-documented involvement in the civil rights movements – said it’s now important for Trump’s critics to assert themselves following the election. Oh, yeah, and maybe we should deal with climate change because the scientific community tells us if we’re not going to deal with that, then the future of this planet is a very sorry future indeed. So. It also is often said it is wasted because it could have gone to the larger party candidate with which the third party aligns with, which is another reason why they are blamed when upset elections happen.
President Barack Obama has suggested Hillary Clinton may not have worked as hard on the campaign trail as he did ahead of his election wins in 2008 and 2012.
Since the DNC, I have been saying that Clinton cannot win in the general election. I don’t think President Trump would want. I mean, that’s who he talked to. ‘What I do know: I know that the Democratic Party has got to stand with the working people of this country, feel their pain and take on the billionaire class, take on Wall Street, take on the drug companies’.
Last week’s election saw the party lose control of the White House and fail to wrest the Senate from the Republican majority.
Even his fellow Democrats had to be horrified to watch the president they sacrificed so much for bob and weave to avoid a single shred of responsibility for the shambles he has made of his party. I read a lot that Trump won because of white racism.
I’ll tell you how I understand it.
Taking a hard line on keeping demonstrations peaceful, Sanders, who supports both the anti-Trump protests and calls to dismantle the Electoral College and declare Hillary Clinton the election victor, said that reports of beatings, arson, and property damage do little to draw sympathy to the progressive cause.
“The Democratic Party can not continue to be run by what I call a liberal elite”, he said.
“There needs to be a profound change in the way the Democratic Party does business”. Whether or not someone agrees with you politically, it is unacceptable to let your anger get to the point that it results in violence. “I am deeply humiliated that the democratic party can not talk to the people from where I came from”, Sanders said. “They change because you work for it”. What’s crucial now, he said, is for people to get involved in the political process. “Now more than ever, it’s our revolution”, he said.
