Bill De Blasio calls for more ‘disruption’ to protest Donald Trump
The Mayor of NY has called for the continuation of protests against President-elect Donald Trump, urging Americans to “fight back” to “take away his power”. In November 2015, de Blasio called Trump a “blowhard” for his comments about the Muslim community and said that Trump was “play [ing] right into ISIS’s hands”.
First, De Blasio said that he talked to Trump about the importance of regulating Wall Street, specifically touching upon the dangers of repealing the Dodd-Frank Act.
De Blasio also said he reiterated his opposition to Trump’s proposed tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, to his promises to swiftly deport undocumented immigrants and to any policies that would contribute to distrust between minority communities and the police.
She added that she wasn’t sure who arranged the meeting, but “even when invitations are extended or suggested, it’s up to President-elect Trump whether or not he accepts them, but he’s very open and he’s been talking to any number of people”.
But many political leaders and administrators across the country have expressed concerns over Trump’s plans, including de Blasio and the mayors of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
The meeting at Trump Tower on 5th Ave. lasted more than an hour.
While Trump asked the nation to come together in his acceptance speech, demonstrations against him have occurred every day since Election Day.
“An organization that’s been closely linked to white supremacists is going to have a representative in the White House”, De Blasio said Monday in an interview with local radio station Hot 97. Each would fare somewhat better in the unlikely event they ran against him as an independent in a general election, with Quinn scraping closest with 35 percent to de Blasio’s 41 percent.
“I tried to express to him how much fear there is”, he said.
The Mayor’s press conference revealed de Blasio’s ambitions to lead the progressive movement.
Fifth Avenue May Shut Down When Trump Comes to TownThere are growing concerns over security at Trump Tower in midtown. At about 12:30 p.m., de Blasio emerged and addressed the media. The mayor during the campaign called Trump unsafe and “one of the worst demagogues in recent USA political history”.
“This was a respectful meeting, a substantive meeting”, said the mayor, but one with a lot of back and forth between the two men. He was reported to say, “It did cause me considerable concern, because they have my information, also the information on my son”.
