First winter storm of the season to impact the area
Snow and any lingering precip should end by Friday morning.
Some lake effect snow is possible in northern Wisconsin on Saturday.
Shocking temperature drops are expected for many areas: Denver is forecast to drop to 20 degrees Thursday night after a Wednesday high near 80 degrees, the National Weather Service said. Island Park could receive up to 9 inches of snow, while Lava Hot Springs, Soda Springs, Bancroft, Grace, Victor, Georgetown and Driggs could see up to 5 or 6 inches of snow.
In addition to getting your vehicles winterized and putting together an emergency vehicle supply kit, now is also good time to get your home ready for the cold months ahead.
Snow: The whole atmospheric column is cold enough to support frozen precipitation in the form of snow. Rain and snow is possible Thursday night for Grand Forks, with low temperatures dropping into the high 20s. “Right now nothing big on the radar past this system here”, said Garmon.
Strong winds and heavy falling snow could bring whiteout conditions to some areas in the Blizzard and Winter Storm Watch areas.
“Just a slight shift in the (storm) track could impact the amount”, he said. Longer-range predictions suggest the region could remain cool beyond Monday. But as of Tuesday evening the expected storm track would make “significant” snow likely along a line from southwestern Minnesota, through the Brainerd Lakes area and Itasca County and into Northeastern Minnesota. We have had no snow yet in November. As luck would have it, Sunday is the 20th.
