Trump Seeks Top-Secret Security Clearances for His Children
President-elect Donald Trump’s team is reportedly hoping to get top security clearances for his children.
A $10,000 gold bracelet worn for Donald Trump’s television interview, followed the next day by a message promoting the bangle: Ivanka Trump, daughter of the United States president-elect, was awash in a mini-scandal Tuesday.
Another transition official pushed back on the reporting, which was first published by CBS News.
Following this report, however, Trump himself refuted the news as “fake” and denied requesting “top security clearance” for his relatives.
Meanwhile, Trump yesterday said he was not trying to get security clearance for his children, which would allow them access to classified government information. It’s unclear if that includes Kushner. Trump’s younger children, 23-year-old Tiffany and 10-year-old Barron, are not on the transition team, nor were they included in the reported requests for security clearance.
“We’ll be in NY and we’ll take care of the business”, Trump’s son, Eric, said.
And Kushner, who has been one of President-elect Trump’s most trusted confidants is expected to be heavily involved in Trump’s White House, perhaps in a formal capacity.
Bradley Moss, a national security lawyer and a clerk for the National Security Archive, said that giving security clearance for a “child or family member” is unprecedented. Rogers announced his departure from the team on Tuesday. Kushner has no experience in government, domestic or foreign policy, or national security.
Kushner’s father was prosecuted by then-US Attorney Christie in 2004 for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.
Despite the reported troubles, Trump took to Twitter to downplay any issues within the transition.
Mr Rogers is thought to have been close to Mr Christie, while Mr Freedman is said to be a protege of Paul Manafort, Mr Trump’s former campaign manager who quit in August. “He’s the one who will have the final say on all this”.
