Ohio State deserves this spot.
The teams immediately in front of the Sooners in this week’s CFP Top 25 are Penn State, at No. 8, and No. 7 Wisconsin. 7 and 8, with two-loss Wisconsin and Penn State.
Louisville has the biggest argument against the most recent poll since they were unable to move past MI and Clemson despite their losses last weekend. “Those are three high-quality wins that the committee places high value in”. Kentucky will have a chance to knock Louisville out of the playoff picture in two weeks.
In two years of the playoff, all the participants have been conference champions and the committee is instructed to give some preference to league champs and head-to-head results when teams are similar.
For a team like Alabama, it is easy to rank them given their strength of schedule. The committee has always favored conference winners.
The Buckeyes are in a unique spot. So what happens if Wisconsin, Nebraska, or Penn State wins the conference at 11-2? Alabama, of course, is No. 1. But the Michigan Wolverines and Clemson Tigers, who both took losses over the weekend to the Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburgh Panthers, still find themselves among the Top 4. Following the 26-13 win over U-Dub, the Trojans jumped up seven spots to No. 13 in the CFP rankings.
Colorado (8-2) moved to No. 10 from No. 12. The Spartans are one of the bigger disappointments in college football this year after being ranked #12 in the Associated Press preseason poll. You know what I’m saying?
For bettors, it’s a reminder never to assume anything in college football. The good news for the Huskies is that there are potentially two more quality wins on the ledger with Washington State and either Colorado, Utah or USC in a possible Pac-12 Football Championship Game.

Maybe it is unfair that Western Michigan probably won’t crack the top 10 even if they win out.
