Kate Upton Tweets Disgust At Cy Young Award Vote
Her math is off, her facts are off, but she had a point.
“She continued: “(Verlander) had the majority of 1st place votes and 2 writers didn’t have him on their ballots?! “#ByeFelicia @MLB keep up with the times and fire those writers”. But Kluber came in ahead of Britton in total points and Porcello topped Verlander.
Upton continued and made a case for Verlander but lambasted MLB’s voting process, which was conducted by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He was behind Verlander and Kluber in both ERA (3.15) and strikeouts (189), but he was extremely consistent.
Some thought the controversy over Verlander’s snub was detracting from Porcello’s accomplishment. Clearly, having Mookie Betts and David Ortiz at the plate helped Porcello reach the 20-win mark and actually led the league in wins, but give the guy credit for going at least five innings in those games and receiving each win. The BBWAA should be beyond that by now, but it was an odd vote.
Verlander received 14 first-place votes to eight for Porcello, but slipped behind him because he was left off two of the 30 ballots, which each allowed five pitchers to be named.
No, Kate, I can’t explain it, either. Numerous fans on twitter criticized the Major League Baseball voters for their choice. Different answers are acceptable; it’s the process that matters.
When asked about the salvos from Upton during his conference call with the media Wednesday night, Porcello took the high road.
“I feel bad that people are upset about this; I did the best I could”, he said.
ROCKIES: Mike Redmond, a former Sea Dogs catcher who became a major league manager, joined Colorado as the bench coach on new manager Bud Black’s staff. He received Rookie of the Year votes in his rookie campaign and appeared to develop well in the next few seasons.
Her tweets were never deleted and the most, uh, colorful one had attracted 62,000 retweets and 98,000 likes by early Thursday morning.
On the face of it, I’d say that they care about pitcher wins too much. Both were on winning teams, with Porcello’s unexpectedly capturing a division title and Verlander’s fighting for a wild-card spot into the final week of the season.
