Federal Bureau of Investigation chief: No charges for Clinton after new emails reviewed
Supporters of Hillary Clinton at the Javits Center in NY are in despair after Trump’s shock victory (pictured).
The increase in Hispanic voting being reported from many parts of the country is widely expected to favour Ms. Clinton.
“This is a whole different ballgame”, Trump said at a rally in an airport hangar in Minneapolis, predicting victory in a state that hasn’t cast its electoral votes for a Republican since 1972.
At an African-American church in Philadelphia, Clinton, who is seeking to be the first female president, spoke on Sunday of her candidacy in nearly spiritual terms. What the rogue Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have done over these past few days is all too similar to the standard practice in Putin’s Russian Federation and other authoritarian states – and far below the American constitutional standard that those agents swore to uphold. We’ll cover the story from a Canadian perspective until a new USA president is declared.
At 9:34 a.m. ET (1334 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 243.05 points, or 1.36 per cent, at 18,131.33. “The president views Director Comey as a man of integrity, a man of principle”, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters in a briefing on Monday.
Then came Sunday’s announcement, which effectively cleared Clinton. Feingold said “clearing the deck is good” and that now voters in the presidential race will have a “nice and clear” choice.
The Republican blasted through Democratic strongholds of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, states that hadn’t voted for a GOP presidential candidate since the 1980s. Donald Trump won the electoral college and the White House, though it appears Clinton will win the popular vote. Now election night has arrived, and as the results come in, Clinton is by no means a shoe-in to be the next president.
Of course this did not stop Trump surrogates from leaping into action to question how the investigation had been conducted so quickly, and from casting aspersions on the investigators they had been quick to praise a few days ago. He cast immigration, both from Latin America and the Middle East, as the root of problems plaguing many Americans and tapped into fears of terrorism emanating at home and overseas. On the other hand, Trump’s stance on foreign policy, trade and immigration has unnerved the market. Clinton outspent Trump by two to one on the trail. Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, told MSNBC that “he’s mishandled the investigation from the beginning”.
But Vice journalist Michael Tracey responded: ‘The Clinton loyalist crowd will blame everyone but Hillary – Putin, Sanders, the media, Jill Stein, James Comey, the voters themselves’. But the former senator and secretary of state never sold the nation on her own candidacy. As recently as Sunday, Trump complained that opponent Hillary Clinton was “protected by a rigged system” after Comey renewed his decision not to recommend charges for her use of a private email server.
“Just as we were back on an upward trajectory, the second letter from Comey. was a real motivator for Trump voters”, she said.
Conservatives, particularly Trump supporters, are enraged Comey did not take the investigation further and are accusing him of bias toward Clinton.
The FBI has not revealed the process by which it sifted through all of the relevant emails, but most experts agree that the agents probably didn’t even need the full eight days to do so. Not only that, he’s doing it mere days before the election. “After that I would expect a keyword search to loop for things of interest”. “And he gives people hope”. But he’s got a heart.
