The bigger questions, said Vaughan, relate to energy policy and Trump’s readiness to roll back executive orders made by Obama.
However, a vast majority of people are unsettled with the new president.
“If the those changes subsequently compromise our ability to reassure the Americans that the Canadian border is not something to be anxious about, the repercussions for the Canadian economy would be catastrophic”, he said.
Canada’s support of the Paris climate change agreement puts the two countries on “a collision course” on climate change, he added. As an example now Canada has a critical need for a new softwood lumber deal with the United States and it remains unclear what, if any, progress our Liberal government has made on this file.
