1000 protestors turn out for Friday night anti-Trump rally
Tens of thousands of people marched in streets across the United States on Saturday, staging the fourth day of protests of Donald Trump’s surprise victory as president.
The Portland Police Bureau said the incident unfolded on the Morrison Bridge early Saturday morning when an altercation occurred between protesters and the occupants of a vehicle. In Portland, Ore., police say a man was shot on a bridge by a suspect who then fled.
Police in Portland, Oregon, say they have arrested two 18-year-old men in a shooting that wounded a man during a protest against President-elect Donald Trump.
For Sunday, demonstrations are planned in Washington in the morning; in Central Park West in NY in the afternoon; and in Oakland, California, and San Francisco at night.
In New York on Saturday, several thousand protesters marched peacefully up Fifth Avenue before filling the streets at the foot of Trump Tower, the president-elect’s skyscraper home.
In a CBS interview to be aired on Sunday, Trump credited his use of social media – he claims 28 million followers on Twitter and other platforms – for helping him win the election.

Police say 17 people have been arrested in Portland since protests began. Police believe they are gang members who may have been “out looking for trouble”.
Despite the shooting, the city was relatively calm compared the night before, which police characterized as a riot and arrested 26 people. Police estimated the crowd at around 4,000 people during its peak. “There is a difference between a peaceful protest and standing in a major highway backing up traffic for 5 miles”.
At one point Friday night, a group tried to run onto an off-ramp, but officers quickly ordered them off.

Even those too young to vote staged protests in the days following the election: Several hundred high school students left local high school campuses to protest downtown Monday, though the group remained peaceful. One officer was injured amid the protests.
The demonstrations are expected to continue throughout the weekend.
Growing numbers of Americans, including many in Saturday’s protests, are wearing safety pins to symbolise solidarity with those his words have targeted, like Muslims, Latinos and women.
“We’re horrified the country has elected an incredibly unqualified, misogynist, racist on a platform that was just totally hateful”, said Mary Florin-McBride, 62, a retired banker from NY who held a sign reading, “No Fascism in America”.
