Trump election: Obama says US democracy ‘bigger than one person’
While Obama was receptive to Greece’s woes and repeated his belief that debt relief is necessary, though also stressing Greece must continue implementing painful reforms it signed up to in return for successive global bailouts, it is questionable how much of this stance will also be adopted by his successor, Donald Trump, following the latter’s recent election victory.
I am one of the latter. Kasich was one of 16 Republican presidential hopefuls Trump defeated in the party primaries. Instead, Obama’s legacy is in doubt as Trump prepares to take power and promises to undo much of the president’s agenda. Already, unfortunately, some worrisome signs have arisen. In many cases, the people who committed such assaults have explicitly indicated that they saw their actions as expressing the spirit of our new president.
Trump’s victory has triggered a wave of protests across the US, with calls to abolish the Electoral College and denunciations of the president-elect’s policies. Yet, by Tuesday afternoon, about 6,000 people had gathered in downtown Athens to protest Trump’s election, the war in Syria, the Greek national debt and America’s existence in general. “We’ve really just been ensconced in Trump Tower trying to form a government”.
Mr Trump has been criticised for his attitudes toward women and for making fun of a disabled reporter. Trump not only has never held elected office, he didn’t really expect to win the White House last Tuesday, and even as he held a meeting with the president, his associates were scrambling to put together the most urgent staff appointments. He was the first president to openly and fully support LGBTQ rights. During his press briefing Monday, Obama spoke to the challenges that await Trump now that the campaign season is over and he has to get down to the business of actually governing. So when such a man expresses the desire to violate Americans’ constitutional rights, it raises alarms. “He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said”.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras won elections past year on what critics say was a populist platform, though one on the left of the political spectrum.
“Whoever says “we will relieve your debts” is doing Greece a disservice”, the finance ministry confirmed Schaeuble as saying after the Passauer Neue Presse daily reported it.
This is an important time.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence and his wife Karen arrives at Trump Tower, Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, in NY.
Will our new president work to pit group against group, with vulnerable people being attacked and persecuted?
With Trump’s team divided, emboldened Republicans on Capitol Hill moved forward with a united front. During the election, Clinton ran against four other candidates and was declared the presumptive nominee on June 7, 2016 after beating Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary election.
Trump aides say the businessman does plan to move to the White House – “The president is going to live in Washington”, top adviser Rudy Giuliani said Monday – but Trump is expected to continue spending time at his exclusive Mar-a-Lago, which the property’s original owner, Marjorie Merriweather Post, willed to the US government when she died in 1973 to serve as a retreat for presidents and visiting dignitaries.
How does this piece relate to the larger strategy I’m proposing, “Seek Peace While Preparing for War”? . Trump’s similar results on this measure to Clinton’s and Bush’s are notable given Trump’s much lower favorability rating, which may portend a low approval rating once Trump assumes the presidency two months from now. “I believe he will fill a cabinet with quality, experienced doers that are like-minded yet strong enough to redirect him if they so believe”.
