Republican Jewish Coalition Defends Trump’s Appointment Of Bannon
Bannon has defended the alt-right movement in the past, admitting that while white nationalists may be attracted to certain philosophies of the alt-right, he believes there are elements of the hard left that attract certain extremists as well. Trump has at times disavowed their support.
President-elect Donald Trump said the right things in his acceptance speech and was similarly gracious in his remarks about his meeting with President Barack Obama. He told cleveland.com’s Mary Kilpatrick Monday, “I think his behavior is despicable”.
“He was a force for good on the campaign”, Priebus said on Fox News, adding they were in agreement on “almost everything” in terms of advising the president-elect.
“We had an earthshaking event occur November 8”, he said. “There should be no place for such views in the White House”.
Bannon, who officially joined the Trump campaign in August, then “began to infuse the Trump campaign with many of their themes”, Dr. Hemmer says. “And ideology ultimately is the most important aspect of any government”.
Bannon boasted in July that Breitbart News was the platform for the alt-right.
Bannon is certainly due Trump’s gratitude for helping run a successful campaign that confounded the experts. One story about a conservative commentator was called “Republican spoiler, renegade Jew”. In 2007, his ex-wife alleged in court documents from their divorce that Bannon expressed open anti-Semitism, declaring that he didn’t want their two daughters “going to school with Jews”. “That’s not the Steve Bannon that I know”, he said. “Can you imagine Mitt Romney doing this? Few plutocrats do, they have efficient secretaries”.
“Steve Bannon doesn’t, I don’t think, think in racial terms”, says Jared Taylor, editor of the alt-right publication American Renaissance, in a phone interview with the Monitor. White nationalists have hailed Bannon’s appointment. He will be an instrument of Trump’s will, not the other way around. But the decision to name Bannon as his Chief Strategist is directly at odds with that pledge.
The site adopted Trump as a champion as his campaign took off.
It took Trump less than a week after his election to issue a wake-up call to Black America that we need to stay woke, defend our every right, tighten our circles, protect one another, and prepare to vote this man out of office at the soonest opportunity. “There’s a lot of stuff in there on which nearly everyone on the right agrees”. This is not about a difference in policy or politics – Steve Bannon has promoted anti-Semitic, racist, misogynistic and unsafe views that have emboldened white nationalist forces and caused some Americans to question whether they can still feel safe in the country we all love. We want to see our counterparts in Europe — starting in Austria and France — win their upcoming elections. Breitbart has operations in London and Jerusalem. Republican leaders have welcomed the appointment of Priebus on the assumption that he can steer Trump toward mainstream policies and help restrain Bannon.
“Perhaps “The Donald” is for real”, Rocky Suhayda, chairman of the American Nazi Party, told CNN.
Trump ally and potential cabinet appointee Newt Gingrich said on CBS on Sunday that Bannon couldn’t be anti-Semitic because of his experience working in finance and Hollywood. But Mr. Bannon is well known and admired among Americans who envision the United States as a white, male-dominated nation.
Bannon has been personally accused of prejudice. Other Republicans have avoided mentioning Bannon but encouraged Americans to have confidence.
