‘Puppy killer’ appears in court for hanging two dogs who weren’t ‘aggressive
A Swampscott man accused of running an illegal kennel to train so-called designer dogs has been charged with killing three of the animals and several counts of animal cruelty in two cases in Lynn and Revere.
Donovan, 51, is the dog trainer and breeder who developed the breed and for whom Donovan Pinschers are named. The dogs were allegedly bred to be aggressive, and if they didn’t make the cut, they were hanged. “Anybody who does this can go to hell as far as I’m concerned”, McPhee said about the dogs’ killings. The kennel has since been closed and Lynn police expect charges to follow.
The kennel reeked of stale urine and feces, emitting a “very acrid rotten odor”, reported by court records.
A Massachusetts man charged with the murder of two puppies which were found in a trash bag is free on bail after his arraignment Tuesday. A witness, however, told police that he received a call from Gentry who bragged that he “beat the dogs with a baseball bat like a pinata”.
A veterinarian would later identify the dogs as 20 weeks old and in “good body condition”.
Gentry’s attorney says he is innocent and did not hurt any animals.
Gentry was arraigned in Chelsea District Court and released on $1,000 bail.
New York police arrested Donovan yesterday on a Massachusetts warrant charging cruelty to animals and killing animals, as mentioned by the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.
Animal rights activists were outside of the courthouse on Tuesday.
“You can’t let people do these things to animals”, Stathopoulos said, “because people who do these things to animals do these things to people”.
