Alabama jobless rate jumps to 5.7 percent

Driving the numbers: The big electoral states of California and NY that were won by Clinton have above-average unemployment rates.

The states labor force grew to 3.67 million in October, an increase of 22,900 people from the previous month. That left 20,466 people still looking.

“I am proud to announce that almost 9,000 jobs were created by Florida businesses last month and more than 1.2 million jobs have been created since December 2010”, Scott said in a prepared statement Friday.

The state has added just 700 jobs since September, preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show.

Statewide, the unemployment rate rose slightly.

Florida created almost 6,000 jobs for the month of October, but the unemployment rate went up, according to the latest numbers from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

Seasonally adjusted Total Nonfarm industry employment, as gathered through the monthly establishment survey, increased 5,700 to 4,344,400 in October.

The Orlando area continued to have the second-highest online job openings of all the metro areas in Florida with 32,769 job openings. State reporting shows a loss of more than 3,000 local government positions.

Scott discussed the numbers at Ideal Aluminum, a St. Augustine company that manufactures aluminum fences, gates, and railings. Thirty-four states reported little change. The national job growth average over the same time is almost double the state’s rate (1.7 percent).

IL not only has the highest African American unemployment rate in the study, but has held that position for three consecutive quarters. Ohio’s job growth rate slowed to 0.91 percent. Collier County’s fell slightly to 5.2 percent, down from 5.4 percent in September. Ohio’s unadjusted unemployment rate last month was 4.6 percent; the comparable USA rate was 4.7 percent. At the same time, hiring is much stronger locally than at was a few years ago, giving new job-seekers reason to be confident that they will find work.
