Bernie Sanders urges millions to ‘mobilize and fight back’ against Trump’s presidency
Sanders acknowledged that change is needed in the Democratic party.
TAD DEVINE: Good to be with you, Scott.
Still, the Vermonter held open the possibility of making common cause with Trump on some issues.
“The belief that we should have an economy that works for everybody, not just a few”. In fact, we’ve been proposing that for some time. However, there are growing signs that the Vermont Senator, who burst onto the national scene close to one year ago, could already have his eyes on 2020 and another run at the White House. I have legislation on currency manipulation, to get tough with China and other countries. And by the way, maybe there’s something wrong when we are the only country on Earth not to guarantee health care to all people as a right. Well, they’re all places that allow independents to vote in a primary, OK?
“I am working right now to find and support new leadership for the Democratic party and an entirely new process by which we welcome working people and young people into that party”, he said.
“Where was the Democratic Party?” he asked. “And Trump had that and Bernie had that, and Clinton seemed not to know what the rest of us are going through”.
“We are not going backwards in terms of bigotry, we’re going to go forward in creating a non-discriminatory society”, Sen. We’re going to be standing together. “We’re going to fight against sexism, racism and xenophobia”. And, as a buzzing audience filed out into the night, one bro could be heard remarking to another, “Dude, I think he might have a shot at running again”.
STABENOW: Well, they have a big stake in this. “They’re going to have a kettle of fish in March that they can’t even imagine”. “If Mr. Trump has the guts to stand up to those corporations, he will have an ally with me”.
The world is watching and frankly it’s embarrassing for us to be seen this way. “We have a middle-class decline with massive income and wealth inequality”.
It’s not a question of whether you refuse to accept it or you accept it. Senate Republicans have blocked President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland. It also is often said it is wasted because it could have gone to the larger party candidate with which the third party aligns with, which is another reason why they are blamed when upset elections happen. Bernie Sanders had this in the primary election too, but Clinton failed to arouse the same kind of passion in her Democratic base as Bernie did. They have done phenomenally well over the past eight years in state legislatures around the country, in governor races.
It didn’t take long for President-elect Donald Trump to make his mark on legislation in Congress. And if the person does not reflect what is best about America, there will be a great deal of opposition.
The incoming president also vowed on the campaign trail to slap tariffs – a tax on goods crossing borders – on Mexican and Chinese products exported by USA companies that moved jobs overseas.
