Should the Cowboys trade Tony Romo?
It’s Cowboys all the time.
Rumors are circulating that Tony Romo will have a new employer in 2017 with Dak Prescott entrenched as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. The Ravens will try to do what no team has done in two months. Another executive predicted the Cowboys could ask for a second or third.
But so has the guidance, leadership and steady hand of Garrett and his seemingly mundane daily mantras of focusing on doing your best today, being your best regardless of circumstance, taking things one day at a time and moving on to the next play. I think we are more disciplined up front. I think the Cowboys will pull out a close one. “We go as they go”. What an opportunity for the Ravens. Games become more precious. Prescott’s Hollywood path to becoming the Cowboys’ first-team quarterback got us thinking: How did the NFL’s other starting signal-callers get their gigs? First, they can beat a team that they have never beaten before; for a team with the Cowboys’ history, that fact is nearly unacceptable in itself. He is at every game, home and away. The Ravens also handed the Cowboys a loss in the final game at Texas Stadium in 2008. The rookie has looked fantastic lately, and had some big plays against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10. We beat the Browns, 28-7, four days later on November 10. Romo is listed as questionable but is expected to be in uniform.
All six of these quarterbacks were drafted in the first round, but each of them were forced to wait a bit before earning the starting QB jobs.
How’s this for a mid-November matchup: can the most productive offensive stretch in Cowboys history continue against the NFL’s No. 1 defense? Jernigan and the rest of his unit, however, will face its biggest test against Elliott, who is having an MVP-caliber season and leads the National Football League with 1,005 yards and has scored nine touchdowns. They are led by the dynamic group of defensive linemen Timmy Jernigan, Brandon Williams, and Michael Pierce, who have all been having outstanding seasons. Mosley and leading tackler Zach Orr. Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg has stayed committed to the ground game even when the running backs have struggled to find yards. Prescott has given the Cowboys a spark this season, throwing for 2,339 yards with 14 touchdowns and two interceptions. Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett, and the Dallas Cowboys organization have made a decision to roll with Dak Prescott as their staring quarterback for the remainder of the 2016 season. If the Ravens can get in his head early with a couple of hits, he may remember the Cowboys have another quarterback available on the sideline and allow it to affect his play. “We were popping out of our skin”, Harbs said at the time. Add in the stable of receivers he had to work with, and he walked into a team where he had all the tools around him that most first round draft pick QBs lack.
This will be the Cowboys stiffest game yet.
Prescott continued to strike the right chord, as he has all season, with a magnanimous statement of unity. But they’re just 21st in the league against the pass, averaging 273.3 yards per game through the air. We were more than tough that day. Every single one of us wants to be that person. “I hope they enjoyed their ceremonies”, Suggs said after the win. The Cowboys were created to make it easier for the quarterback to succeed by taking so much of the load of carrying the offense off his shoulders as a passer and putting it on the running game. It seemed like we had proved to ourselves that we could beat any team at any place and that joy was evident. It was a considered a “developmental” pick; though some of us thought it was a steal.
