Liufau scores 3 TDs, No. 12 Colorado beats No. 20 Wash State
Curious? You should be! The Huskies were held to just three plays of 20 yards or more against USC, one of those from Ross on their first offensive play.
And now, for the rest of our games!
On Saturday, Colorado looked like a top team. Miami secured bowl eligibility by clobbering Virginia, 34-14, last week. Considering how this season started (mind you, all three of their losses are against top 25 teams now), that would be a HUGE accomplishment. For example, Luke Falk of WSU leads the country with a.739 completion percentage, and Colorado’s superb defense ranks sixth by allowing their foes only a.509 success rate. Liufau missed two games due to injury, but backup Steven Montez kept the offense performing at a high level.
There is no denying that this is a pivotal game for these two clubs on Saturday. The three-headed attack of James Williams, Jamal Morrow and Gerard Wicks is capable of providing enough balance to prevent the defense from keying too much on Falk and Marks.
What gives?: NC State has not allowed a 100-yard rusher all season. Falk has completed a career high 73.9 percent of his passes this season and sits at second in the NCAA in passing yards behind Texas Tech junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He’s been at his best of late as well, combining for 14 catches for 362 yards and four touchdowns in the last two games and there’s no reason to believe he’ll slow down against the Sun Devils.
Print that, tweet that, whatever: The insistence from Raleigh is that Dave Doeren is in no trouble.
Saturday’s game begins at 3:30 p.m. Give me Mike MacIntyre’s team in Boulder, as a potential Rose Bowl appearance remains in play.
Throwing for a slick 345 yards, rushing for a bruising 113 and tallying a team-leading three touchdowns, Liufau’s legacy became, in part, first to lead the Buffs to a win against a ranked opponent since 2009 (snapping a 23 game losing streak the encompassed numerous dark years of CU football).
Washington State needs this win big-time. “‘We knew it was going to be a close game … coach Mac really stressed that to us, to keep fighting, keep battling, that we were going to need to play for four quarters, and I think we did that”. “The younger guys are stepping in and catching on to what’s going on … we do not blink – you just keep looking and keep fighting and keep swinging”.
CU (9-2, 7-1) scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to finally put away WSU (8-3, 7-1), which had won eight straight games after opening the season 0-2. Based on aggregated stats, the Buffs have the Pac-12’s top defense, surrendering less than 310 yards of total offense per game. Luke Falk will go off in Boulder, throwing for five touchdowns as the Cougars prep for their Apple Cup showdown with a quality victory over the Buffaloes. The Mountaineers are 88th in the nation in pass defense. He realizes Falk will complete passes, and he wants his talented secondary to make immediate stops after the catch.
The real strength of the Colorado Buffaloes is their defense. As divisional leaders, the Buffs and Cougars are the kinds of winning teams the 6 God would appear front-row to cheer. The Cougars were predicted in the Pac-12 media poll to finish fourth in the Pac-12 North, while Colorado was selected to finish last in the Pac-12 South.
Despite the Buffs’ stay at the bottom of the Pac-12 extending into 2015, last season produced the first signs of a turnaround. “They were in about as many as one-possession games as we were, but football just works out like that sometimes”. Howard hit 12-of-26 throws for 191 yards with two scores and a pick-six while rushing 12 times for 52 yards and two touchdowns.
This was an enjoyable game, and somehow, that’s not surprising.. “Two good teams, two teams that have turned around the situation”. Oklahoma, conversely, averages 10.91 yards per punt return.
Fisher was in on multiple critical plays during the game.
The game isn’t quite as crucial to the Cougars’ hopes for a league title.
Shay Fields leads the team with an average of 17.8 yards per reception and eight touchdowns. Westbrook is eighth, at 164.3.
