Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Nebraska
Nebraska’s first drive was a sign of what was to come against Ohio State on Saturday. Offensively, Nebraska is putting up 32 points and 429.6 yards per contest.
Armstrong responded after the interception and led Nebraska on a 15-play, 72-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard field goal by Drew Brown for its only points of the game.
Ohio State usually brings the junior quarterback out to take questions from the media during that morning every week, and for the past month, it has been nothing but questions about timing, the deep ball, conservativeness, check-downs, misfires and, for one of those weeks, a loss. But the Big Red stalled on 3rd-and-5 at the OSU 45. Last week proved numerous doubters wrong, those who believed that Nebraska was a “mediocre” team who didn’t deserve to be anywhere close to where they were ranked. He later returned to the stadium and rejoined the Huskers on the sideline.
Why the Wildcats make it to Indy: They don’t let a close loss at Ohio State trip them up during a mostly positive second half of the season.
As Armstrong left the field, he was able to give a thumbs up to the crowd.
Fans in Columbus chanted “Tommy!”
Nebraska: The Huskers are likely to plummet when the new AP rankings come out Sunday and the playoff rankings are updated Tuesday. There was a clear and deliberate attempt to feature Samuel, as Ohio State began its first possession by passing to him for nine yards on the first play and picking up 16 yards on a jet sweep on the second. Why you ask, because Nebraska is averaging 32.0 points a game so the Nebraska offense is going to be a handful for Ohio State as well.
ABOUT OHIO STATE (7-1, 4-1): The Buckeyes ran for 208 yards last week in the victory against Northwestern, getting a team-high 87 yards and two TDs from Mike Weber.
No. 2, MI 59, MARYLAND 3 (at Ann Arbor, Mich.) – Wilton Speight finished with a career-high 362 yards after accounting for three TDs in the first half for the Wolverines. Barrett connected again with Samuel, this time on a 75-yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach at 38-3, with 14:48 left. Instead it was the setting of a rout, a deluge of points, and the most complete effort of the season for the Buckeyes, who won 62-3.
(5) Louisville 52, Boston College 7: In Boston, Lamar Jackson ran for three touchdowns and threw for four more in three quarters to lead Louisville. With this, the Havoc Rate (tackles for loss, forced fumbles, and defended passes) of the Huskers is third in the nation, so this could potentially pose a threat to the Ohio State offense. Terrell Newby led the Husker ground game with 13 carries for 54 yards to become the 29th back in Nebraska history to reach 2,000 career yards. The balance was impressive Saturday: 359 rushing yards and 240 passing yards. Ryker Fyfe came on in relief for Nebraska’s all-time leader in passing yards. The Buckeyes, ranked sixth in the FBS in total defense, will need to tighten up after allowing 406 yards to Northwestern.
Remaining schedule: at Ohio State, Minnesota, Maryland, at Iowa.
Samuel had a big game of his own with eight catches for 37 yards and two touchdowns.
This one was all Buckeyes.
Given all that Barrett has achieved, it’s perfectly understandable that Desmond Howard would mistakenly call him a senior Saturday on ESPN’s College GameDay.
