Jose Mourinho: So finally, I lost against Arsene
Alexis Sanchez has been in great form as Arsenal’s frontman this season but how much longer will Arsene Wenger be able to justify leaving out Giroud?
The second-half United took control of possession and the Gunners never really threatened at all, a surprising turn of events for a side that’s been full of confidence coming into the game.
“If it was a mistake i don’t want to say yes or no but I know, I’ve seen the replays”. He wants to be an honest man and a good ref. He tries to do his best.
JOSE MOURINHO, Manchester United coach, waxing lyrical about Andre Marriner. We were phenomenal from a defensive point of view, the way we controlled their counter attack, and with the ball we played quality football, scored a fantastic goal and we had chances to kill the game.
When asked whether the players could have a mental block about playing at Old Trafford, the Frenchman said: “It’s amusing you tell me that because I wondered during the game about that”.
Theo Walcott flickered sporadically. Aaron Ramsey laughed, the only thing he could smile about, as he, stuck out on the left hand side in a position that does not suit him at all, had an abysmal game.
It Giroud who made the ideal impact in the 89th minute, as the French striker rose well to head home Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross at the far post, 1-1.
It has become a recurring theme for United, who have drawn three consecutive home games in the league for the first time since April 1992. They had also been denied what appeared to be a clear penalty before half-time, with Antonio Valencia going to the ground after a clash with Nacho Monreal.
When asked to explain how United did not win a game, the Portuguese said: “I don’t”.
Mourinho was “proud of the (team’s) performance” but felt the result was like “another defeat”.
“The result in the end is positive for us because we were 1-0 down with two minutes to go”. Man United blocked us well as well, they were very organised.
United looked on course to earn a vital three points at Old Trafford when Juan Mata broke the deadlock with a cool finish. We were the best team by far.
“When we lost the ball, our reaction to that moment was amazingly good, so aggressive, so intense we didn’t give them chances to build from the back”. We have done that so many times this season and it shows that there is something in this squad which is remarkable, ‘ Wenger added. There’s a remarkable resilience in the squad and that’s why we came back to 1-1.
