Texas AD denies Charlie Strong will be fired
After that type of a crushing defeat at the hands of toothless Kansas, it’s unlikely the Texas team will rally around its failing head coach.
Fenves and Perrin badly wanted Strong to succeed.
More tangible signs of improvement were required to believe David Beaty’s program was indeed headed in the right direction.
Texas took the short field at the 46 and handed the ball to Foreman again to get on the board for what would prove to be the final time, 21-10. “And I know our team is very happy for themselves, but they’re really happy for the fans”.
As it was, Strong endured an awkward news conference Saturday following his team’s loss to the Jayhawks.
I’m told message from Strong to his team at meeting earlier today was, “Be good men”.

Because Texas can not lose to Kansas. The pieces seemed to be perhaps coming into place for Strong, though, given the upsets a year ago and the combined 310 starts among returning Texas players, third in the Big 12. His final game will clinch either a bowl bid or his third seven-loss season. The Longhorns knew exactly what was at stake. Those accounts payable will not prevent Texas from showing Strong the door. Foreman also now has 1,863 rushing yards this season, which ranks 3rd on Texas’ all-time list – which is just 261 yards shy of Ricky Williams’ record in 1998.
His only bowl appearance came in 2014, when the Longhorns lost to Arkansas in the Texas Bowl. He’s now lost 10 games by one-score margins. Coach fired, losing streak extended or some other indignity that defined the program as the worst among the power five conferences – too often, these stories carried a Lawrence dateline.
Strong was on the hot seat coming into the season, but seemed to save his job with a win over Notre Dame.
Strong restocked the cupboards with talent at Texas. He found a quarterback.
“There are a number of rumors out there about the status of Coach Strong”. He couldn’t reach it.
The Houston head coach was rumored to be a top target if Strong stumbled this season.
