Harry Kane double nicks dramatic late win
Kane scored two late goals as Spurs came from behind twice to beat West Ham 3-2 at White Hart Lane on 19 November.
A LAST-gasp Harry Kane double secured a Spurs win in a boisterous London derby that looked until the last two minutes like West Ham were going to become the first side this season to take three points from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 20: Harry Kane of Tottenham in action during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on August 20, 2016 in London, England.
Michail Antonio’s header gave the Hammers a half-time lead and, after Harry Winks had marked his first Premier League start with a Tottenham equaliser, Manuel Lanzini’s penalty restored the advantage. Lanzini stepped up and hit an nearly unsavable penalty to put West Ham back into the lead. It wasn’t our best game, but sometimes it’s hard when you have a good team in front of you with a good plan to stop us.
“He’s one of the best strikers in the world”, beamed Pochettino. Pochettino said that they were “sloppy” during the first half, yet their self-belief did not wilt and with Kane on the pitch there was always a route to goal.
A Vincent Janssen shot was driven straight at Darren Randolph, but the West Ham keeper could only parry into the path of Harry Winks, who converted the chance on his full league debut.
Son’s movement had been a positive from the moment he was introduced as a second half sub, but the challenge from Nordtveit was reckless in the extreme.
But when it appeared Lanzini’s goal was going to be the victor, Kane scored two late goals – including one penalty – to claim all three points and ensure Tottenham’s unbeaten run continues.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has told The Times it would “a dream” to be the next permanent England captain. “I realised yesterday I was in the team so I had to get myself ready”, said Winks, who made the most of the faith shown in him by Pochettino.
Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele have been passed fit after they picked up minor injuries while on global duty, while Harry Kane was omitted from England’s second game against Spain during the worldwide break to allow him time to continue his recovery from an ankle injury, which will make sure he is fresh and ready for the clash.
Kane nets from the spot against West Ham.
They now travel to Monaco for Tuesday’s must-win Champions League group match against the Ligue 1 side, before visiting Chelsea next weekend. ‘Every one. You can see that I gave a big hug to all the players’.
“I feel embarrassed because we know the importance of this game to the fans”. After the match with “Tottenham”, “West Ham” will play two matches at “Old Trafford”, then take on the home field “Arsenal”, and then to try to fight the “Liverpool” to “Anfield”.
