Miami Dolphins: Another win
They’ll also face three tough defenses before then. The Rams got a field goal anyway and led 10-0, but they were on the verge of actually scoring two touchdowns in the same game for the first time since October 16.
Tannehill passed for 172 yards in the fifth straight victory for the Dolphins (6-4), who were dominated by the Rams’ defense until their final chances for redemption. “In pressure situations, you want to be on the field to try to close out the game”. They also lost receiver A.J. Green to an injured right hamstring on the first pass of the game; he was taken off on a cart. All we had to do was shut them out and we win the game.
“I guess we just had to make it dramatic for the fans”, right guard Jermon Bushrod said.
And that’s sort of the problem.
His situation and Goff’s are not mirror images, but the point is that the Rams will have to be as patient with Goff as they set out to be for much of the season. Defensively, the Dolphins are yielding 22.9 points and 364.3 yards (235.6 in passing and 128.8 in rushing) per game against the opposing teams.
That’s not on Goff. One positive is the Cal product didn’t turn the ball over, scrambled a few times to keep plays alive and made accurate passes on the run to move the chains.
Browns head coach Hue Jackson confirmed that Kessler has entered the league’s concussion protocol, “and we will go from there”. Goff’s performance was far from overwhelming, but his lack of touchdowns is one thing that coach Jeff Fisher and the Rams conservative offense can definitely be encouraged by. Goff threw into traffic more times than he should have and was trigger-shy at others, but it’s not as if there were Rams running wide open downfield, awaiting his passes.
Goff went 17 of 31 for 134 yards in a quiet debut by the NFL’s No. 1 pick in the Rams’ 10th game of the season.
How did it work out?
In the first quarter, the Rams got on the board with a 24-yard Todd Gurley touchdown run. Goff’s longest completion traveled perhaps 18 yards in the air.
“It’s hard to praise any of your players in a loss like this”, Fisher said, “but when all eyes were on our quarterback, I thought he handled the game pretty well”.
“As long as there’s time on the clock”, Tannehill said, “I believe we’re going to win”. There is more to his game than was on display Sunday. Previous starter Case Keenum decline has increased in recent games and Fisher decided to make the change after the Rams 9-6 win against the New York Jets, the third game this season the Rams offense had failed to score a touchdown in a game.
Speaking of Parker, he finished with eight catches for 79 yards and a touchdown on the day. “We were bad on offense”. The Rams bottled up Jay Ajayi except for one 36-yard burst, and they made Miami punt on 10 of 11 possessions. In their last three losses, the Rams have allowed a total of 44 points.
On L.A.’s lone touchdown drive, Goff completed both of his throws – a three-yard dumpoff and a short crosser that Kenny Britt took 19 yards to the Miami 24-yard line. But Fisher still found reasons why he impressed his team.
And it probably wouldn’t look much different of the quarterback was Carson Wentz, the No. 2 pick in the draft, or Dak Prescott, taken by Dallas in the fourth round at No. 135. The Dolphins will host the San Francisco 49ers, while the Rams will visit the New Orleans Saints. Benjamin Cunningham gave the Rams good field position on the kickoff returning the ball 44 yards to the LA 41.
