Browns go through three different quarterbacks in loss to Ravens
Finally, the Ravens could relax and coast to a win.
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jerraud Powers extended his streak of National Football League seasons with an interception to eight by picking off Cleveland Browns cornerback Josh McCown on Thursday night.
Cleveland took advantage and grabbed a 7-3 lead on the next possession with a 25-yard pass from Kessler to Seth DeValve, a rookie tight end from Princeton.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (5) is tackled by Cleveland Browns outside linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah in the first half an NFL football game, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, in Baltimore. The Ravens also showed a little imagination on offense. Joe Flacco was kind enough to throw an interception of his own, but McCown then led a three-and-out, followed by another interception on the next drive.
The issues continued for Flacco, though, as the lanky signal caller made another one of the poor decisions that has plagued his season to this point, forcing things to Kenneth Dixon in the end zone with Joe Haden in the area.
But perhaps they were too eager. Hue Jackson’s decision to bench Kessler following the opening drive three and out in the second half really blew up in his face.
There is, of course, the thought that it’s more fun to go with the long shot and take the Browns, because remember there’s always a chance.
Cleveland finished the game with 144 yards of total offense, the fewest by any team in a game this season.
But the nine-play, 64-yard drive was bittersweet: rookie fourth-round guard Alex Lewis incurred a high-ankle sprain during the touchdown play and was carted off.
Bal-Waller 4 pass from Flacco (Tucker kick), 9:36. (Thursday) night, I made the choice and it did not work out. Vladimir Ducasse, who was signed October 11 after being one of the final cuts in training camp, started in his place. Ducasse was flagged twice for holding. Stanley’s legs look exhausted and center Jeremy Zuttah has struggled all season. Smith is now just 231 yards behind former Colts receiver and Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison (14,580) for seventh. McCown’s first two series did not go well. At one point, Pitta stayed in to help with protection and completely whiffed on a block.
But now the Ravens have some wiggle room and some time to heal from playing two games in five days.
Regardless of the outfit, the catch by Perriman is the focus here. Perriman got Boddy-Calhoun turned around and hauled in the touchdown pass while falling to the turf. This time, Flacco hit Steve Smith Sr. for a 12-yard touchdown and converted the two-point conversion to take a 21-7 lead. In a game where two guys are both moving and the defender’s helmet makes contact with the QB’s shoulder first, it’s just not fair to call it roughing if their helmets happen to touch at all.
