Florida Gators Remind LSU They’ll Play ‘Anytime, Anywhere’ After Win
Interim head coach Ed Orgeron could have bolstered his case to stay with the Tigers on a full-time basis had they pulled things out in the game’s waning seconds, but a loss riddled with errors likely won’t do him any favors.
Understand, that while part of it was the loss, it was also “how” LSU lost.
In fact, it happened to White just last week in a 38-10 win at Arkansas. Cleveland wanted another shot, Appleby said.
Florida: Missing a handful of starters, the Gators played with a lot of heart and relied heavily on their elite defense to pull off the upset. A methodical drive that began at the LSU 16 reached first-and-goal for the Florida 4 before a one-yard gain, a sack and a short completion led to a 22-yard field goal.
Tre’Davious White can empathize with fellow LSU cornerback Donte Jackson. That’s what it was. They saw heralded running back Jalen Hurd leave the team because he thought he was playing in a system that didn’t fit his future. “We’re all we’ve got, and we’re all we need”. He kept moving his feet. I don’t know what it was.
When asked this week if he was eager to prove which team has the best defense, LSU defensive end Arden Key answered, “I feel like we’ve already proved it”.
“We came here to build a program and build it the right way”.
How incredible, how improbable was Florida’s show-stopping 16-10 triumph at LSU on Saturday afternoon? People say win or lose, they are Tiger fans plain and simple. We told him we had his back no matter what.
Florida running back Jordan Scarlett wasn’t anxious as Saturday’s game against LSU wound down to the final seconds.
The game was a close one, coming down to literally the last three nail-biting seconds. “We would’ve been up 14-3 with the great defense we have”. Florida’s first offensive play of the second half was a 98 yard completion from Appleby to Tyrie Cleveland, who broke a tackle and avoided going out of bounds along the way for the best play of either of their collegiate careers to date.
LSU (6-4, 4-3 SEC) amassed 423 yards of total offense but was 2-of-5 in the red zone including a fourth-and-goal fumble by running back Derrius Guice, who was stretching the ball toward the goal line as time expired.
“One of their guys was in my way and I bumped into him on objective to set it off”, Wilson said.
“He believes in his younger guys”.
“This is a home game for us”. One play would have led to a touchdown, the other to LSU having a first down just outside of field goal range with over a minute to play before halftime. It lost a fumble in the red zone and botched the snap and hold on a field-goal attempt. The problem: The vast majority came in un-noteworthy games.
Several players from both teams got into a shoving match during pregame warmups. As bad as we played, was probably the worst we’ve played since we started our new season. They were down 16-10 late in the game. He went 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the SEC during his first year at the helm, which was good enough for the Gators to win the SEC East.
LSU may consider trying some of that this week.
Tigers fans were supposed to enjoy a romp over South Alabama on Saturday, but that game was scrapped after the October 8 LSU-Florida date in Gainesville was postponed due to threats of a hurricane.
