Bernie Sanders Calls on Donald Trump to Rescind Stephen Bannon’s Position
Given a fair primary contest, for starters, “Maybe I would have been elected president of the United States”, he said.
Sanders argued that his campaign made Clinton a “stronger candidate” because he forced her to take a position against the controversial projects like Keystone Pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Sanders said the two might also be able to find common ground on an increase in infrastructure projects that could create more jobs.
In a roundabout way, Sanders praised the billionaire businessman and expected they could cooperate on campaign pledges to raise the minimum wage to at least $10 an hour, to force big pharmaceutical companies into lower prices for seniors and to preserve Social Security.
One of the burning – though unanswerable – questions is whether Sanders could have defeated Mr. Trump in the general election.
Sanders, speaking with reporters at a Christian Science Monitor sponsored breakfast, said he is ready to embrace Trump on a handful of campaign promises. During his speech, Senator Sanders called on Trump to rescind his decision to make Steve Bannon his chief strategist. “If Mr. Trump has the guts to stand up to those corporations, he will have an ally with me”.
Sanders said his candidacy also engaged millions of young people who hadn’t been involved in politics before.
Newly elected Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, of NY, picked Warren and Sanders to serve on a diverse 10-member team, which he said will aim to unite the caucus and speak to those across America. “And I would hope very much that he recognizes that that point of view that he has is way out of touch with what the scientific community believes”.
Bannon’s appointment has led to an outcry from many Democrats, who say Bannon is racist and bigoted.
“He was saying that he was going to be the champion of the American working class”, Sanders said. His campaign, which began in 2015, was deemed a long shot, but he garnered more than 40 percent of the primary votes and brought his challenge to eventual nominee Hillary Clinton to the Democratic National Convention in July. These were spoken through a live streamed video with thousand viewers at George Washington University.
“It doesn’t matter. I don’t know if I could have won”. “And that is, yes, we are better off today economically than we were eight years ago, we’ve made a lot of progress in a lot of areas”.
As the Democrats were still sad from the losses of last week’s poll and desperately try to figure out how to regroup and energized the party now that Republicans control the White House, the Senate, and the House Mr. Sanders gave encouragement urging them to push forward. As the crowd chanted “Bernie!”
In a statement emailed to Sanders’ supporters, Our Revolution wrote: “We need to do all we can to protect the most vulnerable people in our country from Donald Trump’s administration”.
