Disney Pixar releases intense trailer for ‘Cars 3’
Following 2011’s “Cars 2”, McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is back, flying through the screen as it appears a race has gone awry. Video after the jump!
A few jump cuts from different sections of the track are shown in rapid succession as the cars jostle for position, and then we see a closeup of McQueen just as his tires begin to fail.
At the time, there was nothing else quite like it for teaser trailers to animated movies.
“From this moment, everything will change”, the trailer’s closing titles tease. Although the film is not set to release in theaters until the summer of 2017, that does not mean that fans can not start getting excited early, because as the trailer teases, it looks like everything is about to change. It was directed by Brian Fee and produced by Kevin Reher.
Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of both previous Cars films, and when this teaser popped into my feed, I couldn’t help but groan and say, “Really?”
“Lightning McQueen sets out to prove to a new generation of racers that he’s still the best race auto in the world”. You can get a glimpse of these newcomers in this clip when a sharp-edged black and blue auto with IGNTR on the back pushes through the pack and appears to take the lead. Probably, because what’s a movie about a down-on-his-luck boy if there isn’t a plucky young lady to inspire him to do more, amirite?
Enter new upstart Jackson Storm, the newcomer to the racing circuit who’s going to be pushing Lightning McQueen, it seems. These could be the new characters McQueen has to defeat in order win back his glory.
In short, it seems like “Cars 3” is readying us for a turn from “Cars 2”, which inexplicably included Brent Musberger and other even worse plot turns.
Despite many preferring Pixar to do original works rather than sequels, at least they’re trying to make Cars 3 be something more than just a cash grab.
“Cars 3” will open in cinemas on June 16, 2017.
