Spieth in three-way playoff for Australian Open title
“There was some brainless putting and I’m still in contention in this tournament so I feel like that’s unsafe from our side”, Spieth said.
The American started with back-to-back birdies but three bogeys in four holes from the 8 to 11 made for a nervous closing stretch for the two-time major champion.
Adelaide-born Ogilvy, victor of the Stonehaven Cup in 2010, started the day six shots off the pace but soared into the lead with the best round of the week in the best weather conditions of a blustery day.
He didn’t lose any ground with six straight pars to start the homeward nine.
Scott mixed four birdies with three bogeys and was upbeat after his 71 despite missing a short birdie putt on the final green.
Geoff Ogilvy plays his approach to the 16th hole during the first round of the 2015 PGA Championship golf tournament at Whistling Straits. “I’m looking forward to getting over there to see what I can do”. So I certainly plan to, but I just don’t know what’s going to happen 12 months from now. “Maybe we can make a few mid-range putts tomorrow”. I don’t know, it just didn’t feel very good, even from the start. “Making that birdie on the last was the key”.
“I love it here, we love coming back here”.
Indeed he is, and the motivation now is stronger than ever to emulate the legends and get his name on the Stonehaven Cup a couple of times. “Eventually I’ll win one, I hope”. It’s always a nice feeling.

Spieth will play in the penultimate group with Ryan Fox in the final round in Sydney on Sunday.
“That’s annoying because they count just the same as all the good shots, so it is a little frustrating but I’m trying not to let it bother me too much”. “As I said, it’s been coming”, he smiled.
“I felt more comfortable when I was putting today”.

Scott picked up four shots in three holes late in his Friday round, which included an eagle at the par-five seventh. “I might not do that now, I’ve got some important tournaments to play next year, one in particular in July”. Ogilvy said he was now looking forward to a lengthy break before returning to the U.S. when the 2016/17 season starts again early in the year. “I’m not sure where he’s at right now in the world [rankings]”.
Veteran Australian Rod Pampling was one shot further back after a third round 70 while world No.7 Adam Scott carded a tumultuous 71. I didn’t have my golf swing all week really, to be fair.
