Interesting: Guardiola made shocking revelation about Yaya Toure
The midfielder was a surprise inclusion in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI – making his first Premier League appearance of the season – and justified his selection by scoring each of the goals that brought them level on 27 points with league leaders Liverpool.
Toure can not play in City’s remaining Champions League group games, beginning with Wednesday’s visit to Borussia Monchengladbach, but Guardiola said: “If we qualify in the Champions League, I will sit with my staff and we will decide who are the best players to help us to achieve what we want”.
Toure won the match and all three points for Manchester City seven minutes from time after he slotted home easily from Kevin De Bruyne’s corner-kick.
But asked if he regretted leaving Toure out of the European squad in the first place, Guardiola simply replied: “No”. Crystal Palace are in trouble and they needed a performance in front of their fans.
And Dann was disappointed with the goals conceded by Palace, adding that the nature of them was particularly frustrating for the Eagles.
Want your voice heard? But there are games during the season like Saturday where you are not brilliant.
83′ – GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-2 Manchester City: It is that man Toure again.
And after scoring two goals, including an 83rd minute victor, the City boss will be wondering what might have been if he gave Toure another chance earlier on in the season. With Fernandinho helping out defensively, Toure can be used as a box-to-box midfielder in attacks.
The Chilean has had a couple of shaky moments during his time at City so far – most notably in his debut in the Manchester derby and with his red card at Camp Nou – but his generally calm use of the ball has contributed to the build-up play that Guardiola demands.
The pair would go on to experience contrasting fortunes in the opening 45 minutes, with Kompany’s latest comeback from injury lasting just 35 minutes before he was forced off after colliding with his own goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
It’s not something you’d expect to see when turning up to a game in which one of the sides is managed by Pep Guardiola-a man who values possession over everything but goals, and whose Juego de Posicion stratagems have inspired so many clubs, ranging from Borussia Dortmund to AFC Bournemouth. “He kept working really hard in training, stayed professional, and that was his just reward”.
Guardiola said he had no regrets about the decisions he has made.
“We want to make peace between Guardiola, Yaya and me for the supporters, the team and for the results”. Jurgen Klopp’s side remain top of the table by virtue of having scored more goals than Manchester City.
