Ronaldo caps ‘dream year’ after Madrid contract extension
Cristiano Ronaldo is the fifth Real Madrid player to extend their contract this season, after Toni Kroos, Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.
“I have said it many times, this club has always been in my heart”.
During a news conference Monday at Santiago Bernabéu stadium announcing the contract, Ronaldo said he would prefer this not be the final contract he signs – he wants to play to age 41. He is the only player in the history of football to score over 50 goals in a single season for six consecutive occasions.
A second contract with Madrid may not be on the cards though.
The 31-year-old responded with a hat-trick against Alaves but after failing to find the net in his last two games he has again received a negative reaction. Ronaldo’s profile is massive across the world though, and a move to China or Qatar would likely prove incredibly lucrative for the Portuguese. But for the next five years, he’s tied to Madrid.
“I’m happy because he is the type of player who deserves to finish his career at Real Madrid”.

The record breaking attacker has made plenty of history already since moving to the Bernabeu from Manchester United in 2009.
‘What I most want is to continue enjoying the years I have left to play.
The reigning European champions, in all likelihood, will sign a five-year contract on Monday, which will keep him at Santiago Bernabeu until 2021. Whether I score or not is not as important as you think.
“I want to continue to give my best”, he said. “It was great to win the Champions League as well as the European Championship”.
Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo also guided Los Blancos to an 11th Champions League crown last season before winning Euro 2016 with Portugal.
