Sony Music Canada shared on their Facebook page the news confirming the 82-year-old’s death.

His death was confirmed by his son who said his father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles. It added that during this period of grieving, the family of the music legend would like to keep their privacy.
No cause of death was given.
Details have yet to be released, however, his biographer Sylvie Simmons told the Washington Post that Cohen died at his Los Angeles home.
The PM also quoted a line from Hallelujah, which was famously covered by Jeff Buckley and inspired hundreds more interpretations.
The 82-year-old was popular mostly in the 1980s, but he performed up until this year.
He moved to NY in 1966 at the age of 31 to break into the music business.
Cohen maintained a close connection to the city even as he became more famous.
Cohen was best known for his hits Hallelujah and Dance Me to the End of Love and scored 15 Top 40 records on the Official UK Albums Chart.
In 1995, he took a break from music to live in silence as a Buddhist monk, but returned in full force in 2008 when he began to tour again.

In a final letter to Ihlen revealed by a friend, Cohen declared his “endless love” for her, writing, “I think I will follow you very soon”.
