Coach Charlie Strong says he wants to stay at Texas
Football coach Charlie Strong reportedly is out at the University of Texas. “The fans they can be mad, but they’re not playing or actually have to go out there and play, I think [the players] opinions matter more”.
For the record, Strong said he met with Perrin and talked with Fenves on Sunday.
On Sunday night, Charlie Strong’s firing as Texas head football coach seemed a sure thing. Strong is expected to coach the Longhorns in the regular-season finale, according to the Statesman. It might only be wishful thinking – or maybe not.
“Some of the team is threatening to boycott the TCU game”, the source said.
With top administrative support, Strong appeared relatively safe until Saturday’s 24-21 overtime loss at lowly Kansas. The game against TCU (5-5) could be Strong’s final game.
Strong has two years and almost $11 million left on a five-year guaranteed contract. Strong is very well respected by his guys and I definitely believe they want to hoist him on their shoulders and carry him off the field when this game concludes.
“I want to come back”, Strong said.
Strong also said hed evaluate his job tenure not just in wins and losses, but as leader for young men who need a father figure in their lives. Strong was an underdog to be returning for the 2017 season for several weeks, but now it’s official.
Another question we should be asking is whether Texas will ever be the “Texas” it once was. In the Big 12 news conference Monday, Strong said it was “critical” to get the Texas seniors to a bowl game. Will UT fire him? That game is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Austin. Strong changed Texas’ culture for the better, and his players’ unwavering support shows it.
As for his fate, Strong said Monday he was told a decision would be made after the Longhorns’ home game Friday.
“You have to get everyone to rally back. They know how important it is to our seniors”. A large gathering of players attended the press conference in a show of support for the embattled coach. My heart aches for him. I pray for him, his family, all the coaches on that staff and his team. “I can’t say enough”.
After going 16-20 at Texas, the Longhorns have chose to fire Charlie Strong. A Tech player grabbed it and ran it back 100 yards to give Texas Tech a nine-point lead.
The loss happened because Trent Domingue missed a 31-yard field goal, the defense couldn’t stop Kansas from scoring its only touchdown on offense late in the game, and had because the offense had no ability to put the game away in the fourth quarter despite multiple opportunities. “Everybody can say wins and losses … but the maturity and growth of a young man has value”.
