Goff debut highlights Week 11 in the NFL
Fisher thought the No. 1 overall pick handled his first start with minimal jitters, as did Dolphins coach Adam Gase. This game just exemplified the reality that Fisher is afraid to let his players play, especially on offense. “No delay-of-games”.
Tannehill said picking up the tempo with a no-huddle offense changed the Dolphins’ fortunes.
In their prior three games, the Rams scored 10 points against the New York Giants, 10 more against Carolina, and nine vs. the New York Jets with Case Keenum at quarterback.
Such a loss pretty much confines the rest of 2016 to observing Goff, who made his first start. Even Goff admitted after that it took “a couple drives to settle in”.
Rather than the moxie he showed taking chances down the field or making big plays or being the catalyst to an expanded Rams offensive attack. Even Nick Foles, who was banished nearly as soon as the Rams drafted Goff, played well when he was needed in Kansas City.
Fisher said he also is not considering a change at offensive coordinator. How many National Football League teams have a kicker miss three field goals in a single game? Even with the resurgence of Jack Del Rio’s Oakland Raiders, Gase is now a more than viable candidate for coach of the year.
Goff went 17 of 31 for 134 yards in a quiet debut by the NFL’s No. 1 pick in the Rams’ 10th game of the season. “I did that past year”. And, well, the season before that. Speaking to reporters, Goff said he felt “very comfortable” while playing on wet field conditions. Hall of famer John Elway was injured in his first start, and then lost his second start, throwing for 106 yards and 0 touchdowns. With the team’s small margin for error, these examples of undisciplined play are inexcusable.
“Still in the process of trying to gather more facts from law enforcement – we’ve got a copy of the police report and all that”. The Dolphins somehow stormed back in the final five minutes to steal a win from the Rams, scoring two touchdowns on their last two drives. Looking ahead to next Sunday, he added, “You’re not going to want to play us next week because [our] defense is disappointed”. His first five carries went for 40 yards, and for a little while, it seemed like the Rams had finally forced some defensive attention away from their star tailback. “We’ve got to give Jared more opportunities through play-action, and get the ball down the field”.
And that’s been a problem all year.
On Sunday, in a 14-10 loss that was the toughest in a season already full of them, the Rams managed one touchdown. It gave the impression the defense collapsed.
Invariably, a breaking point occurs.
Why, exactly, it didn’t happen against the Dolphins remains a bit murky.
Not that anyone on defense wanted to admit it. “Cincinnati game, that Tennessee game, were some turning points for us to where we knew we had some issues in some, certain places”.
Wilson became the first quarterback in franchise history to catch a touchdown, a flawless end-around pass from Baldwin to Seattle’s athletic QB as he ran down the left sideline and dove into the end zone to give the Seahawks (6-2-1) a 23-7 lead. I guess the last six minutes, we definitely – the best way to put it is we dropped the ball. I was disappointed in the outcome of the game, but you could see the light – there’s light there for him. While heartbreaking nonetheless, it was a typical Sunday afternoon for the hapless Rams.
“We have to learn to finish”, Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree said.
