EPL: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal
José Mourinho has suggested Henrikh Mkhitaryan could not handle the pressure of playing in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal and instead told the forward he would be involved in Thursday’s match with Feyenoord.
“Finally, I lost against Arsenal”.
The late salvo stretched Arsenal’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 17 games, although Wenger has still yet to beat Mourinho in the league in 12 meetings and his team only mustered one shot on target in the game.
“If we analyse the last three matches at home: against Stoke we have to win five or six nil but we draw”.
United now sit in sixth place in the Premier League – nine points off leaders Chelsea.
Mourinho, though, believes it is only misfortune that is keeping his team from the Champions League places.
“I think the problem is when you come away and it hasn’t gone to plan and you think we could have been so much better, we should have been so much better and there’s problems there we need to solve”. We know when he can play.
But visiting manager Arsene Wenger drew heart from their refusal to accept defeat. How long is Klopp with his team? “He played off the right for Chelsea”. “This is the Premier League. they only needed one chance”. “They were by far the better team”.
Wenger has not won at Old Trafford in the Premier League since September 2006 and has experienced a lot of pain here since – but he will happily grasp this point with both hands after a desperately disappointing Arsenal display. I am happy with the players. “With you, with my family, with other friends, with my players and with United’s awesome supporters. on Monday i will be ready again!”
“When we had the ball, we produced good football, we produced good chances”.
He added: “I can only explain the work my team did – incredible control of a team that is very good, a team that normally produces very good attacking football was completely controlled”.
Mourinho’s men continued to dominate, Marcos Rojo heading wide from Blind’s deep cross, only for Oxlade-Chamberlain to skin Marcus Rashford before crossing for Giroud to snatch an unlikely point.
Wenger praised Arsenal’s “never-give-up attitude”, but he could not explain why it took them until the 89th minute to threaten David de Gea’s goal.
“We have a good understanding”.
