Obama Comes Out Of Trump Meeting With ‘Renewed Confidence’
Trump, sitting in the office he will soon redecorate, described the discussion as an opportunity for the two men to get to know each other and professed to have “great respect” for the sitting president.
President Barack Obama is set to welcome his successor, Donald Trump, to the White House, extending an olive branch to a man he has blasted as unfit to serve as commander in chief and who led the charge to challenge the legitimacy of his own presidency.
Trump responded by advising the outgoing president to “do his job” and stop campaigning for Clinton.
Trump said that the meeting was only meant to last for a few minutes but went on for longer.
The traditional photo ops between President Clinton, George W. Bush and President Obama on their respective first meetings. The meeting lasted for nearly an hour and a half.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani are being widely mentioned for top positions. “We had never met each other”, Trump said.
Obama said that his number one priority in the next two months will be trying to facilitate a transition that ensures our President-elect is successful.
“Mr. President, it was wonderful meeting with you and I look forward to meeting with you many more times in the future”. Melania’s son Barron is 10, the same age as Michelle’s oldest daughter Malia was when they moved into the presidential mansion.
Earnest said during the visit to Trump’s future home, the two moms discussed raising children in the White House.
Trump and Ryan will “discuss how they can hit the ground running in a Trump administration”, a Republican source said.
Trump followed up the meeting by heading to Capitol Hill to meet with another key player in his emerging presidency, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan. Trump’s team was said to be sketching a robust role for Pence, an experienced Washington hand, that would include both domestic and foreign policy responsibilities. If one, however, were to compare the looks on Trump’s and Obama’s faces during said handshake, with the dispositions of presidents and president-elects in years past, there is quite an obvious difference. “And I’ve been very encouraged in the interest in President-elect Trump’s wanting to work with my team on numerous issues our great country faces”.
“They had so little confidence in his self-control, they said, ‘We are just going to take away your Twitter.’ Now, if somebody can’t handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes”, Obama said at a Sunday rally for Clinton in Florida.
Trump has been a thorn in Obama’s side.
Obama campaigned vigorously for Trump’s Democratic rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and called Trump both temperamentally unfit for the presidency and dangerously unprepared to have access to US nuclear codes.
Despite the bitter campaign, Obama pledged Wednesday to cooperate with Trump’s takeover.
Protesters turned out for a second day in cities across America from NY to Los Angeles to express continued opposition to the incoming leader they accuse of racism, sexism and xenophobia.
