Rocky Horror Show Returns To West End With O’Brien And Bedella
The stage production is coming back to London’s West End, at the Playhouse theatre, for 11 performances in September before a UK tour later in the year. “It’s gender issues which have dominated my life”, he said.
I’m delighted to be returning to London, where Rocky started, and performing in the show after more than 20 years. Following its London run, The Rocky Horror Show will tour the UK from December with a new cast led by S Club 7’s Paul Cattermole, former Emmerdale actor Ben Freeman and X Factor singer Diana Vickers.
O’Brien, who wrote the show’s book, music and lyrics and originated the role of Riff Raff, told The Stage that it “seemed proper” for him to be a part of the musical’s live broadcast performance.
The Rocky Horror Show is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s. David Bedella will join O’Brien in the role of Frank N. Furter.
Featuring a eclectic score of hits such as “The Time Warp”, “Dammit Janet” and “Sweet Transvestite”, this is a chance to see the wildest party return to the West End for a strictly limited period.
The musical was adapted into “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in 1975 which starred Meat Loaf, Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon.
Tickers for the run go on sale tomorrow, Saturday August 1, but if you miss out, a star-studded gala charity performance on September 17 will be broadcast to cinemas across the UK and Europe, to raise money for Amnesty global.
