Austin resident among Americans chosen as Rhodes Scholars
She is the 17th IU student to receive the Rhodes Scholarship.

A college student from OH is among the 32 Americans chosen as Rhodes Scholars to pursue post-graduate studies at Oxford University.
Previous Rhodes Scholars include former President Bill Clinton and current Defense Secretary Ash Carter.
A Maryland woman who attends the University of Virginia, a Johns Hopkins University senior and a Naval Academy midshipman are among 32 Americans selected as this year’s Rhodes Scholars.
“I am fascinated with what influences non-violent populations to begin endorsing and engaging in violence, the strength of social bonds within violent organizations, how resources shape organizational structure and the types of relationships non-state armed groups form with civilians”, Courchesne said in a release from her university. “I’m thrilled, and I’m really excited to go to Oxford”.
Shea is already an accomplished scholar. She said she’s inspired by her parents and the African-American poet, writer, feminist, lesbian, and civil rights activist Audre Lorde. She was just 18 at the time.
Last year Doyle spent a semester studying in Puebla, Mexico, where she had an internship at a hospital.
Koseff, who was among the Stanford faculty members who recommended Shea for the Rhodes Scholarship, added, “She is never still for a moment, always seeking, questioning, innovating and thinking about the ocean that she loves so passionately. I always wanted to take every opportunity I was given and absolutely do the most I felt I could with it”.
