Google updates Pixel phones with double-tap and raise-to-wake features
If you’re an existing customer and have an upgrade available, you can save $100 on any Android smartphone that’s $400 or higher. Like clockwork, the Mountain View, California-based company is letting loose a new release: the Android 7.1.1 Developer Preview 2.
The 1.27GB-heavy Android 7.0 Nougat update is available via the over-the-air or OTA process and it carries the UI found on the LG V20, the latest flagship device from the company, according to GSM Arena. While the previous update brought Pixel-exclusive features such as image keyboards and app shortcuts, details about changelog of new release are scarce at the moment.
It remains to be seen as to when the update will be available in India. Going forward, it’s not clear whether Pixel phones will receive new Android versions ahead of supported Nexus phones, whether those older devices can eventually expect to support the Pixel Launcher or Google Assistant, or whether even more Pixel-exclusive features will be added to the operating system.
If you don’t mind being locked into a two-year payment plan, Verizon has a really, really good deal on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL. For a limited time, when you buy Google Home you’ll get 6 months free of YouTube Red.
After enabling the debugging option you can go ahead and download the Euclidean ROM for your Nexus 5 directly on your PC and connect your smartphone to the PC using a USB cable so you can copy the Euclidean ROM onto the smartphone’s SD card.
Per the users who got the update, the new Android 7.1 update comes with two new features. Especially when you consider they normally run between $650 to around $870 bucks normally depending on which model you choose. Unfortunately, it’s not clear when the carriers in the USA will make things official and users are not able to grab the factory and OTA images yet. You will also need to install latest Google USB drivers for your device, which you can grab from here.
To turn the features on, head on over to Settings Moves. Next, reboot your device into Recovery Mode. The double tap to wake feature is a great addition in my opinion as one doesn’t have to unlock it everytime.
