‘Hail Trump,’ white nationalist leader cheers at alt-right conference
In the video, Spencer appeared to raise a glass after saying, “Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory”.
Trump’s comments come a day after footage showing members of white nationalist group National Policy Institute chanting “Hail Trump” went viral.
Members of the crowd give the Nazi salute throughout the speech.
At another point, Spencer said that to be “white is to be a striver, an explorer and a conqueror. It is our creation and our inheritance, and it belongs to us”.
In attendance also was pseudo-celebrity Tila Tequila who had a photo taken of her and two other attendees giving a Nazi salute. Well Jonathan Greenblatt, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League, has said no. CNN and host Jake Tapper have both apologized for an on-screen banner that Tapper said was “unacceptable” and “horrified” him when it appeared during his show on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016. It is part of the far-right movement known as the alt-right. It’s only the beginning of the trash the alt-right spews.
The video led to activists calling for Mr Trump to condemn the actions.
As reported by The Algemeiner, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on Monday expressed “deep alarm” over the “hateful rhetoric” used at the NPI conference.
Along with Steve Bannon, Spencer, meanwhile, is a leader in the “alt-right” movement.
“It’s not a group I want to energize”, he told the newspaper.
President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday disavowed the so-called “alt-right” movement of white supremacists who have been celebrating his win, but claimed ignorance when asked why he thinks the group supports him.
It hardly requires an investigation, as Trump suggested Tuesday, to find out why white supremacists are “energized” by his victory.
The US Holocaust Museum issued a statement condemning Spencer’s speech.”The Holocaust did not begin with killing: it began with words”, it read.
Breitbart News, where Mr. Bannon was executive chairman before joining the Trump campaign, has been accused of providing a platform for alt-right views. And Trump’s own campaign broke ugly new ground in using race, religion and ethnicity to court white voters.
