Mike Trout, Kris Bryant win 2016 AL, NL MVP awards
Despite being on the underwhelming (to put it nicely) Angels, Trout was able to receive 19 of the 30 first place votes, leading him to the most prestigious award in baseball.
Bryant received 29 out of 30 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, which votes on the awards. Even so, I’d like to see the Cubs sign him to a long-term extension soon. He’s special. He’s great for the game. “Mike is the consummate team player and deserves every accolade he receives on the field just as he should off of it for the person he is”.
Trout was named American League Most Valuable Player on Thursday while Betts finished second.
“As the Nationals noted in their Season in Review before the postseason, “. among players to play at least 50% of their games at second base, Murphy joined Rogers Hornsby (H.O.F., 1942) as the only second basemen to hit at least.347 with 25 home runs, 104 RBI and a.595 slugging percentage”. First baseman Anthony Rizzo and right fielder Jason Heyward each won a Gold Glove, and Rizzo finished fourth in the MVP balloting.
“Just to win one MVP award is unbelievable”, added Millville athletic director Dave LaGamba said.
“You hear all the talk”, Trout said. I’ve been here for a fifth time and I know how it works.
“I’m speechless, man”, Trout said moments later in an interview from his parents’ home in Cumberland County. Just to be in the conversation, it’s surreal.
Individually, the two great outfielders each compared similarly in almost every statistic except walks and hits.
McCann’s playing time diminished in the second half of the season as rookie Gary Sanchez emerged as a power hitter behind the plate.
He led all of baseball with 32 runs saved.
So the MVP stands for Most Valuable Player, and these three guys can argue that they deserve it more than the other, exclusively based on their numbers. He set a franchise record with 16 total bases and became the first player in major-league history with three homers and two doubles in a game.
Not a believer in defensive statistics yet?
Trout entered the night with “mixed feelings” about his chances, he said. He hit.275/.369/.488 with 26 homers and 99 RBI.
It was nearly as tight of a race as the AL Cy Young Award, which Rick Porcello won narrowly over Justin Verlander on Wednesday.
In fact, what makes Trout’s MVP experience even more impressive are the years he did not win. However, it seems experts realized that the Red Sox would have still made the playoffs without Betts. When the face of the Angels is not winning MVPs, he is coming in second place. Addison Russel received one sixth-place vote, while Kyle Hendricks picked up one ninth-place vote. As such, he fit easily into the back half of a 10-player ballot in his final season.
