Richard Sherman: Eagles’ Carson Wentz’s ‘easy walk’ ended vs. Seahawks

No team’s fans travel quite like Eagles fans. Might as well embrace it.

Sammie Coates is playing with broken fingers and has caught exactly one pass since Week 5. “His receivers and their balky hands don’t help, but the Eagles’ recent struggles can mostly be attributed to Wentz’s issues”. “A lot of respect for him, the way he came into the league right away and took it by storm as a later pick”. The pass was a lovely spiral right on point allowing Wilson to reach across the goal line for the score. We’ve known this for weeks.

Defensively, Seattle for the second consecutive week received a spark from Kam Chancellor, who skied for one of two Carson Wentz interceptions and tipped another pass on third down while blitzing.

The Seahawks struck first on a 75-yard run by Prosise four minutes into the game, but Philadelphia blocked the extra point to hold Seattle to a 6-0 lead.

And none of that may matter, anyway, because if the Seahawks perform as they have the past two games, they can beat anybody they line up against. Aaron Rodgers is usually excellent at not turning the ball over, he’s already had 5 games with an interception. The touchdown to Jimmy [Graham], scrambling to his left, making that across his body throw.

The injury to T.J. Yeldon (ankle) could force him to miss Week 12 and possibly more.

Prosise broke a 72-yard touchdown run in the first quarter but eventually came out of the game with a significant shoulder injury.

Mix in the hyperbole with Wentz’s head coach Doug Pederson mentioning names like Brett Favre as a comparison for the former North Dakota State Star, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich doubling down by bringing up names like Jim Kelly and Andrew Luck, and you have the cocktail of unrealistic expectations. “He’s struggled with turnovers and doesn’t have much success when throwing downfield, which he rarely does anymore”, DaSilva wrote.

Still, the Eagles aren’t ready to head into the offseason, yet. We know we can really take off at this point. The Seahawks on the road were a bridge too far, which isn’t at all surprising.

The Birds also had more first downs (20-18) and a better third down percentage, converting six of 16 (38 percent).

Say this much for Jared Goff in his NFL debut: he protected the football, extended a few plays, and drives, in critical moments with his legs and took just one sack against Ndamukong Suh, Cam Wake and a unsafe Miami D-line. They’re still feeling the effects of that with Nelson Agholor’s inexcusable illegal formation penalty.

Agholor had failed to line up at the line of scrimmage as required.

“I see the Philadelphia Eagles doing some of the same things they are doing offensively and defensively”.

It’s not just the low IQ though. The reason I say this is because the Seahawks’ coaching staff wouldn’t have risked their franchise quarterback getting hit on the reception. It was an incomplete pass that showed just how much mustard he can get on the ball even when he’s moving. Unfortunately, he was hurt early in the game against Seattle, with an apparent knee injury.

But rookie right tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai will be sidelined after suffering a Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

This has to be the core concern for the Eagles out of Sunday’s loss: They made so many mistakes on so many fundamental aspects of football that they never gave themselves a true chance at toppling the team that might yet again prove to the best in the NFC, and no quarterback, not even one with Wentz’s talent and potential, can overcome such sloppiness.
