State police to have larger patrol presence during holiday travel season
“Please obey all traffic laws, pay attention to the job of driving, ensure that everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained, and if alcohol is part of your Thanksgiving plans, choose a designated driver”.
Drivers should expect to see OHP troopers every 20 miles of I-40 from 11 a.m.to 11 p.m on Wednesday and from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Stan Stabler, secretary of law enforcement for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said troopers investigated 10 traffic fatalities during the 2015 Thanksgiving travel period.
Drivers are required to change to another travel lane or, when unable to, cautiously pass emergency personnel stopped on the side of the road. That equates to about a million additional cars on the roadway. Cooper said that if you’re caught driving under the influence, you will be arrested and your vehicle will be impounded for 30 days. “Focus on the task at hand, and putting yourself in a tremendous risk for a crash that may result in injuries or death”.
Construction projects remain a consideration for drivers throughout the state, but Ohio Department of Transportation officials said ODOT will try to reduce those projects’ impact as much as possible during the holiday weekend. “We are asking everyone to drive to save lives”, said Virginia State Police Superintendent W. Steven Flaherty.
Leave the proper amount of space between your vehicle and the auto in front of you; (One vehicle length for every ten miles per hour). We had a lot of construction zone accidents this year but the zones were posted at a slower speed, so most of the accidents were not serious.
Thanksgiving Eve, one of the most popular nights of the year for bars and party-goers, contributes to higher numbers of impaired drivers.
