What Will Warren be Thankful For This Thanksgiving Day?
I encourage you to be kind to your neighbors every day, but especially around the holidays, as this is the time of year where loneliness, depression and grief are amplified.
Check back next week for a new question.
Retiring Long County Probate Court Judge Marie Middleton said she’s thankful “the citizens of Long county let me serve them for the last 20 years and thankful I can now retire”. Of all the cities I’ve lived in during my adult life, and this includes great American cities like Boston, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, and St. Petersburg, Fla., by far the most hospitable and delightful is Charleston.
I usually prefer to relax at home in my turkey-and-dressing-induced lethargy and avoid the insane crowds and the break-neck pace. I deliver assemblies, I run speaking engagements, I meet incredible life changing people, and I work one-on-one with kids that need love and compassion.
In choosing how to focus on God, there are two options, the natural which can be overwhelming – or the spiritual in which we’re overwhelmed by His goodness.
We have great schools and caring educators. Instead of picking up and moving on, I’ve settled in and planted roots. Could I have accidentally thrown them away a year ago?
The Psalmist wrote: “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart”. Jared Rosholt, HeavyweightI am thankful for the health and well-being of my friends and family, and also to the men and women serving our country so that we can have that well-being.
I grew up in a family, my mother’s, that seemed to thrive on spirited dinner-table debate, and nowhere was that more vivid than on Thanksgiving. Our baby boy on the way certainly tops that list. I understand that I am very lucky for the ability to provide for myself; many people may not have that luxury.
Stories of gratefulness came back to us from all ages.
If we are going to be alone, it’s a flawless opportunity to travel.
According to history.com, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation on October 3, 1863 to make the last Thursday in November a national day of thanks, but credit also should go to another – Sarah Josepha Hale, author of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and also known as “the godmother of Thanksgiving”. She always goes out of her way to be extra helpful while she’s in town.
I often lament how commercialized our holidays have become, how caught up in gifts and trappings. My parents help me through my struggles and my worries. She supported me a lot in my acting career.
But for now, this is the week you’ve got to show up with a smile on your face and try to enjoy your Thanksgiving celebration.
Therese, mom and G. W. Bailey. But the point is, no matter how you celebrate the holiday, we could all use a little Christmas cheer right now.
I see the extraordinary difference every day as I pray the Liturgy of the Hours on iBreviary.
These are only a few of the possibly hundreds of Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday traditions celebrated by many every year. Catholics already celebrate the Christmas liturgical season from Christmas Eve to January 11. It’s a joy and honor for me to be part of YOUR holiday, even if you just tune in for a few minutes before checking out the parade or getting your cooking started.
Tis’ the season for giving thanks, eating a disgusting amount of food, and giving the expected but typically dreaded life updates to distant relatives. When I get jealous of other kids, because they get to watch TV or have a pet, you sort of forget that some people don’t even have TVs.
One thing that helps me when I’m losing my way is keeping a journal.
My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is enjoying scrumptious food with my family and knowing it’s because God has blessed us so richly!
