Turkey Trot set for seventh year
Carlos Barreras, a UNLV junior who participated in the run, hopes to see more events, as well as more Turkey Trots like this one, in the future.
He said the race gets runners from all over the country, “most of them coming to Memphis to spend the holiday with family”. The run starts and finishes at 8280 Longleaf Drive and benefits Courage House. “It was a first-year event in 1995 and I’m certain there were lots of kinks that had to be sorted out”.
You can sign up until thanksgiving morning, two hours before the 9am race.
About 6,100 participants are expected to take part in the events.
This is the 38th year for the event. This Thursday is the 7th annual Cold Spring 5K Turkey Trot.
Moore said the event is important to citizens of Edmond because it is a way for the community to get together. The registration cost is $35 dollars for the day of the race.
The trot included a one-mile run for children. Now in its sixth year, the race started as a way to burn some calories before chowing down on turkey and all the fixings later in the day. Runners are asked to donate three non-perishable food items on race day, and past year those donations equaled more than 6,500 meals.
Packet pick-up will be at the station from 4 to 7 p.m. on November 23 and again from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Packet pickup and registration starts at 8 a.m.
In a short amount of time, the Folsom Turkey Trot has gone from an opportunity to get some exercise before stuffing yourself on Thanksgiving to a family tradition.
Demand on the food pantry is up with an average of 160 food baskets going out monthly, she said.
