Mourinho’s Comments After Man United’s 1-1 Draw With Arsenal
The change in fortunes over the last few weeks have largely come as a result of a cohesive midfield of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba dominating the matches.
‘I thought we were going to have the ball, ‘ Mourinho explained after 31-year-old Rooney’s 30-minute cameo.
“So finally I lost against Arsenal”.
The draw means Mourinho remains unbeaten against Arsene Wenger in 12 meetings in the Premier League.
United claimed reward for their mounting pressure when Juan Mata put them ahead in the 69th minute, only for Olivier Giroud to equalise a minute from time with Arsenal’s first attempt on target.
“For the rest it was a bit of scrappy game with two teams well organised who defended well”.
Despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic not being available, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho once again made a decision to bench captain Wayne Rooney for the club’s clash against Arsenal on Saturday, and he has explained why.
“He, in 14 years, failed to build a team to be champion”.
“I said yesterday at the press conference”, Mourinho told ESPN Brasil. “If we had (those) six points more we are top four and close to the top of the league”. We know when he can play. “He gives us a lot on the right flank”.
But with Michael Carrick anchoring United’s midfield again and Antonio Valencia, back from a fractured arm, supplying drive from right-back, there was poise and objective to the hosts’ football.
“We have a good understanding”.
“How long is Mr Wenger with this team?”
“Chelsea and Liverpool don’t play in Europe. They are unbelievable. They know to be fair and applaud a team that has dropped two points”.
“The level and experience of Man City”. This team at the moment are the unluckiest team in the Premier League. If I do feel something then I am honest, but I am ready, I am fit and ready to play.
The central defender has endured a torrid 10 months that has seen him barely feature in competitive action for United due to knee and ankle injuries. It is very sad to know that time flies for everyone of us. If we keep performing the way we are doing, we will be OK. He signed a one-year deal only in the summer when Jose Mourinho came to the club. Matteo Darmain escaped what looked to be a certain second yellow card when he went in late on Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
“Was it fatigue or a mental switch-on problem after the worldwide break?” It’s short but I don’t think it’s an explanation.
Wenger conceded that the point Arsenal took was a good one.
Mourinho’s side could have been awarded a penalty in the first-half after Nacho Monreal appeared to foul Antonio Valencia.
“Mourinho’s view is it was a penalty”.
