Sorea Korea prosecutors plan to question President Park
Organizers said there were a million people at the protest, which had a carnivallike atmosphere.
It was the latest in weeks of demonstrations against Ms Park. She is also suspected of ordering former secretary Jeong Ho-seong – now under detention for alleged leaking confidential Blue House documents – to pass Presidential speeches and other materials on to Choi.
The Park administration has been plunged into the worst crisis of its turbulent tenure after news emerged that she had been taking advice on everything from North Korea policy to her wardrobe from a lifelong friend with no policy experience and links to a questionable cult.
Ms Park’s ruling Saenuri Party has repeatedly apologised for the scandal, and its floor leader Chung Jin-suk admitted there had been a “total collapse” of public confidence in the government. However, they have threatened to campaign for Park’s resignation if she doesn’t distance herself from state affairs.

The opposition bloc’s leaders have largely refrained from explicitly demanding the President’s voluntary resignation or an impeachment, but the thinking appeared to have changed following the massive turnout for Saturday’s anti- Park rally.
Thousands of people are expected to continue rallies in major cities nationwide, including Seoul and the southern port city of Busan where some 30,000 residents marched to call for the president’s resignation the previous night. “Park Geun-hye resign!” Anger among the general public is prompting opposition politicians to become more vocal about impeaching her even though they lack the two-thirds majority needed in parliament to remove her. I want her out right now. One of the main South Korean presidential election campaign issues is the economy, as the chaebol, South Korea’s business conglomerate, dominates the country’s wealth while the economic life of middle class people has not been improving.
Under South Korean law, a sitting president has immunity from prosecution except in cases of treason, but many scholars say a president can still face investigation.
Samsung is also accused of separately offering millions of euros to Choi to bankroll her daughter’s equestrian training in Germany. They had raided the company’s headquarters in southern Seoul on Tuesday.
The increasingly unusual scandal surrounding Choi has inspired rumors to fly and left her accused of everything from influencing national security decisions to swaying the careers of pop singers to swinging construction deals for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
Ms Choi is accused of trying to extort huge sums of money from South Korean companies and is under arrest on charges of fraud and abuse of power.
In her second televised press conference about the allegations, which took place on November 4, Park said that, if necessary, she would “faithfully submit” to the prosecution’s investigation and offer her “best cooperation” to reveal the truth.
With a number of other claims also arising in the local media about Park and the extent of Choi’s influence, a spokesperson for the president denounced the emergence of “regrettable” false reports.
“Park is defying the will of the people, unable to drop her obsession with power”, Moon said.
