Trump said he “can fully understand” why the Times has been getting those complaints but wondered why the paper would be so transparent about it.
Richard Spencer, a neo-Nazi leader who coined the term “alt-right”, opened a speech at the conference with the greeting: “Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!” Trump said that was “very unfair” given that no evidence is ever offered of Bannon’s supposed racism.
In a statement the publication said it became aware the meeting had been cancelled only when it read Trump’s tweet.
The adviser, Kellyanne Conway, spoke of “charges” against Hillary Clinton but referred specifically to Trump sending a message to members of Congress, not the Justice Department.
