Rooney becomes Manchester United’s all-time top scorer in Europe

Jose Mourinho expressed his satisfaction with how United took advantage of their chances in a 4-0 win against Feyenoord.

From here Rooney drove along the left, peered infield, and passed to Ibrahimovic.
Ibrahimovic could have made it three just moments later, but the striker was denied by a good save from Jones.
Cue a particularly fierce celebration from Rooney, which may have been a release of emotion following his recent troubles.
Rooney was substituted to warm applause in the closing stages after a starring performance, with United on easy street as Feyenoord failed to trouble Romero in the second half.
Of United’s attacking outlets it was Mkhitaryan, with his purposeful runs and excellent close control, who was impressing the most and the Armenian fired into the side netting following a give-and-go with Ibrahimovic. The 27-year-old was the recipient of a crafty pass from Shaw as he lurked in the area and was unlucky to see his shot blocked.
Referee Manuel Gräfe thought otherwise and surprisingly waved play on – much to Mkhitaryan’s dismay.
Lingard, a late replacement for Mata, was twice thwarted by Jones, but prevailed at the third attempt with a curling left-foot shot.
Six minutes later, the game was well and truly put to bed when Jones turned in Ibrahimovic’s cutback from the byline.
From his seat in the analyst’s chair, Gary Neville had remarked that what Mourinho badly needed was a “statement win”.
